Despite some rough conditions for the tenders, we made it ashore to enjoy the breathtaking scenic scenes and explore this beautiful Mediterranean travel destination. You Only Live Once! Bonifacio is a spectacular medieval fortress town on the southernmost tip of Corsica, France. Known as the "City of Cliffs," it is famous for its dramatic 9th-century citadel built directly into plunging white limestone cliffs that overhang the Mediterranean Sea. The town is split into two distinct areas, making it a particularly striking destination: The Upper Town (La Haute Ville): A maze of narrow, winding cobblestone streets, ancient stone houses, and heavy fortifications. This historic center offers sweeping panoramic views across the Strait of Bonifacio toward Sardinia. The Marina: Tucked into a deep, fjord-like natural harbor below the cliffs, the lower town is lined with palm trees, bustling brasseries, and luxury yachts. Historically, it was a highly strategic and fiercely defended Genoese stronghold, but today it is considered one of the most glamorous and visually arresting ports of call in the Mediterranean.
