The most hated statement by Polish language teachers among foreigners is: "In principle, it's systemically correct, but Poles don't say it that way." This usually happens when there are no clear rules and regulations. A case where the criteria for choosing endings are at least ambiguous is the masculine singular genitive. The customary criterion applies here, namely... Poles simply say it that way, but why? It's easier to answer the question "how," while the question "why" requires more thought. Besides, neither question can always be answered unequivocally. But that's probably the subtle charm of the genitive. Let's overcome the complexities of grammatical rules and exceptions! Let's not let fear and reluctance overcome us. How can we do this? Perhaps it's enough to love and enjoy grammar. After all, you can play with it. International Mother Language Day provides a unique opportunity for this. We met online and... learned everything we wanted to know about declension but were afraid to ask. Excellent lecturers, academics, teachers, theoretical linguists, and practicing educators shared everything they know about declension: how to recognize gender, how to count uncountables, how to decline and how to know whether to use a screwdriver or a screwdriver, why Maria Dąbrowska wrote "Noce i dnie" and not "Noce i dnie."
