The temperatures have been rising day by day, and now it reaches 30°C every day. This week I made a few small summer things: a knitted cotton top and two palm leaf fans. It was my first time trying avocado peel dyeing, and the result turned out surprisingly good—it was so fun. Fans are my essential summer item. They remind me of childhood summers at my grandmother’s house, where she would gently wave a fan while patting me to sleep. When summer gets hot, I lose my appetite, and my Sichuan stomach starts craving familiar flavors. So I made a jar of homemade chili oil—my little secret potion for reopening my appetite in the heat. A shaded corner under a tree, the small things I’ve made and meals that awaken my taste memory. That’s how a happy summer quietly begins.
