Shopping the World’s Largest Flea Market for Antiques & Vintage!

Today, we’re shopping at a flea market with serious history—dating back to 1850! Canton, Texas, is home to First Monday Trade Days, where antique dealers, flea market vendors, casual junk sellers, and professional vintage resellers come together once a month in what’s said to be the largest flea market in the world. With blustery weather pushing us indoors, we head to the Canton Civic Center, where the most dedicated antique and vintage resellers huddle in a packed hall filled with fascinating collections—including things we’ve never seen before! French-American gorgets worn by fur trappers, Crimean War metalwork, salesman’s samples, Hudson’s Bay trade beads, and even a Model T anti-theft device are just a few of the surprises. Even familiar collector categories offer fresh discoveries, from a Stan Lee-inspired girl-power comic book and a New York police hat to an endless selection of vintage fashion and linens filled with one-of-a-kind pieces. The buying here is great, too! A fun fish TV lamp, carved wood and Lucite WWII pins, a McCoy vase we haven’t had, sterling Scandinavian ship jewelry, and even a sexy hand-painted Japanese shunga scroll (oh my!) make their way into our growing piles of purchases. The dealers are as friendly as they are knowledgeable, showing us everything from the mechanics of marble toys to where the next building full of vintage treasures awaits. Everywhere we look, there’s something intriguing—vintage electric appliances cleverly repurposed into funky lamps, racks of pristine table linens, vintage watches and jewelry, pottery, porcelain, and more. This place is a feast for the eyes and a goldmine for serious collectors and resellers. And the wildest part? This is the smallest show of the year! We’re already planning to return when the weather is better and the entire town is overflowing with thousands of indoor and outdoor vendors.
