Lagginhorn South Ridge – Fresh Snow, Full Exposure & Incredible Atmosphere (4,010 m)
Lagginhorn – South Ridge (Südgrat), 4,010 m – Guided Ascent On August 1st, we set out for a true alpine adventure: climbing the Lagginhorn via the South Ridge, one of the most beautiful and exposed ridges in the Pennine Alps. Only a few meters into the climb, it became clear that the mountain had its own plans. Fresh snow on the upper half made the ridge narrower, steeper, and significantly more technical — exactly what turns a high-alpine route into an unforgettable experience. The weather remained thick and mystical, with limited visibility but a truly special atmosphere. My guest tackled every passage with impressive calm and determination, step by step, despite the challenging conditions. Reaching the summit felt particularly rewarding. This wasn’t an ordinary ascent, but one of those days when motivation, teamwork, and trust make all the difference. A memorable experience that will stay with both of us for a long time. 🧭 Route Information Peak: Lagginhorn, 4,010 m Route: South Ridge (AD) Character: Exposed rock ridge, mixed conditions with fresh snow Guide ratio: 1:1 Starting point: Hohsaas / Saas-Grund Descent: Normal route 🧗 Gear & Conditions Fresh snow on upper ridge Some icy or slippery sections Mostly solid rock Rope management essential Helmet, harness, crampons, and ice axe recommended 📚 Chapters 00:00 – Approach 01:25 – Entering the South Ridge 03:40 – First technical steps 06:17 – Fresh snow on the upper ridge 08:10 – Exposed ridge sections 10:05 – Final push to the summit 11:10 – Summit & impressions 🔔 Join the Alpine Community If you like this kind of content and want more behind-the-scenes thoughts, planning, technical advice and community interaction, I’ve opened a private free Telegram channel for alpinists.
