The SEO industry itself can't agree on anything — one major publication says schema markup is essential for the agentic web, another tracked 1,885 pages adding schema and found AI citations barely moved. Meanwhile, local businesses are left wondering what to actually do. So I tested it. Over the last month I ran 10 brands end-to-end through a system I built in Claude Code — home services, replacement windows and doors, remodelers, attorneys, financial planners, dentists, med spas. Every single one had something to act on: blog posts needing refreshes, missing location pages, thin service pages, Google Business Profile category mismatches, schema gaps, Core Web Vitals issues. The big takeaway: local search didn't die. The Map Pack is still there. The blue links are still there. But there's a new layer on top — ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews — and it's additive, not a replacement. Local businesses need to win both.
