July, 2026 Modern DT&I Detroit Railfanning

Welcome back to the HO Scale Modern DT&I! We’re picking up right where we left off last time with GP35 379 switching out the freight cars the Flat Rock Shaefer turn left for them. GP35 379 is a very early Athearn RTR model upgraded with tsunami 2 and a Scale Sound Systems speaker. 379 trades loads and empties at several customers at OJ. These customers have to be switched while the yard is clear of interchange traffic with NS, which usually happens late in the afternoon. This traffic includes various parts for Ford and plastic pellets used for molding interiors. After 379 is done, we set up on another day to catch the Southbound Schaefer-Flat Rock turn headed back after picking up all the outbound cars. 495, a Proto 2000 SD45 - now classed as an SD40M-3 - leads SD40T-2 475, still in Ohio Central paint. 475 is an Athearn RTR model. Next we see GP60 2026, the America 250 unit, leading B39-8e 800 south with a Moterm-Cincinnati intermodal. Finally, we catch a northbound freight with steel traffic for Ford with a Chessie System ET44 by ScaleTrains up front. It’s leading SD60 603, another Proto 2000 unit. This concludes a look at the new areas for now. I’m working almost daily on the shops scene, and I have one more piece to get before I show them other side of the hole in the wall. I’m also going to be starting the rebuild of Newark yard soon, so operations will be smoother all around.
