1988 NEWS SPECIAL: Crime in Roxbury ( Boston's Ghetto ) | Real Stories
Over a dozen young people were murdered or had serious injuries in a string of shooting events that occurred in the summer of 1988 in Boston's predominately black Roxbury neighborhood. The majority of the shootings included drug use, and many of them included young gang members. "The wave of violence dominated the front pages and evening news for weeks. The Roxbury community was alarmed by the hazardous proliferation of guns and enraged by the inaccurate portrayal of their area in the media.
