Jorge Nieto en entrevista con Milagros Leiva: ¿Por qué propuso liberar a Pedro Castillo?

In an interview with Milagros Leiva's program "Sin Rodeos," former presidential candidate and leader of the Good Government Party, Jorge Nieto, explained the scope of his proposal to release former president Pedro Castillo. He stated that the initiative is not based on an assessment of the judicial process, but rather a political gesture aimed at opening spaces for dialogue and promoting reconciliation among the country's various sectors. Nieto maintained that Peru is experiencing profound polarization between a segment of the population that supports right-wing positions and another that identifies with the left, making it necessary to adopt measures that contribute to rebuilding trust. Along these lines, he affirmed that it would also be important to meet with the families of those who died during the protests that occurred during Dina Boluarte's administration. Along the same lines, the former Minister of Defense also commented on the situation of the former head of the Council of Ministers, Betssy Chávez, and maintained that the Peruvian State should grant her safe passage to allow her to leave the country, considering that this would contribute to improving diplomatic relations with Mexico and strengthening regional integration mechanisms such as the Pacific Alliance. ON THE UPCOMING CONGRESS Finally, Jorge Nieto questioned the political landscape in the upcoming Congress of the Republic and expressed his disagreement with Fuerza Popular leading the Parliament's Board of Directors. In his opinion, the country requires broad agreements among the various political forces to address the challenges of governance and reduce the climate of confrontation that, he indicated, persists on the national stage.
