Feasibility of White Cumin (Sufaid Zeera) in Punjab | Crop Reformer

White cumin or caraway (Carum carvi) is very precious condiment/medicinal crop and frequently used in every home in Pakistan. We have discussed about the cultivation feasibility of this crop in Punjab. I have cultivated sufaid zeera for two years to investigate its planting dates. Its germination and vegetative growth is excellent in central Punjab. It remains healthy until flowering. The period of mid February to mid of March is very crucial. Root rot, stem and leaf blight disease may flare up and sometimes leads to utter destruction of crop. However, it can be grown relatively more successfully in the well aerated soils of Thal area and south Punjab. Research on its feasibility is still in pipeline. That is why, it is advised that this crop should be cultivated as test crop in very short scale.
