Initially captivated by Fernand Braudel, Oryu Yoko encountered Aimé Césaire, the man and his work, during a trip to Martinique. This encounter led her, amidst a storm, to embark on an academic journey to discover a leading figure of decolonial thought, a writer and politician. Oryu Yoko is a professor of French civilization and holds a doctorate in contemporary societies from the Graduate School of the University of Kobe.
