04 وقفات مع سورة السجدة " بل هُم بلِقاء ربهم كافرون " | برنامج آيات تتلى | الشيخ عمرو الشرقاوي
Our Lord - Glory be to Him - began Surah As-Sajdah, as we mentioned, by speaking about the Book: "Alif, Lam, Mim. The revelation of the Book, in which there is no doubt, is from the Lord of the worlds." (As-Sajdah 2:1) Then He moved on to speak about the greatest purpose of the revelation of the Holy Quran; This is the affirmation of the Oneness of God: “Allah is He Who created the heavens and the earth and all that is between them in six days. Then He established Himself upon the Throne. You have no protector or intercessor besides Him. Will you not then remember?” (As-Sajdah 4). It also speaks of the creation of humankind. Then God divided people into two categories in this blessed chapter and in others. This duality is always present in the Holy Quran: “Allah has sent down the best of narratives: a Book consistent in its themes, oft-repeated.” (Az-Zumar 23). So the Holy Quran always contains discourse about the believer and discourse about the disbeliever, discourse about the transgressor and discourse about the obedient, discourse about the wicked. And speaking of the believer, this is how the Holy Quran speaks of the people of Paradise and the people of Hell, those who are blessed and those who are wretched. Our Lord mentions for us a category of criminals, a category of disbelievers, and He tells us the motive behind their criminality. Why did they commit crimes? Why did they disbelieve? Why did they go astray? Why did they deviate from the path of God? Our Lord gives us a description of these criminals; God says about them: "And they say, 'When we are lost in the earth, will we indeed be in a new creation?' Rather, they are disbelievers in the meeting with their Lord." "And they said, 'When we are lost in the earth...'" These are the disbelievers who deny the messengers and the resurrection. They know about the initial creation that God spoke of: "Then He fashioned him and breathed into him of His spirit and made for you hearing and sight and hearts. Little are you grateful." (As-Sajdah 9) Yet, despite this, they persisted in their arrogance, "And they said, 'When we are lost in the earth...'" meaning, "And they said," referring to the disbelievers who deny the resurrection. "When we are lost in the earth" – loss here means absence, i.e., when our bodies and body parts are scattered and mixed with the dust of the earth, "When we are lost in the earth, will we then be in a new creation?" God Almighty said: "Rather, they are disbelievers in the meeting with their Lord." There is another reading: "And they said, 'When we are lost in the earth, will we then be in a new creation?'" This is said sarcastically, meaning they not only denied the Resurrection, but also mocked this great belief. The Doctrine of Resurrection The Glorious Quran greatly emphasizes the affirmation of resurrection and what lies beyond it, and provides parables. Our Lord, may He be glorified and exalted, gives five parables of resurrection in Surah Al-Baqarah alone, illustrating how God is capable of bringing the dead back to life. God recounts that these people not only denied the resurrection but also mocked it: "And they say, 'When we are lost in the earth, indeed, we will be [brought] into a new creation.'" These are the polytheists, those who deny the resurrection. What was the reason or motive that led them to deny this doctrine—the doctrine of resurrection? They did not deny that God is capable of creating, but they disbelieved in meeting their Lord. Out of fear of God's punishment and dread that He would recompense them for their sins, they denied meeting their Lord. Our Lord reminds us of the One Who Resurrects; What made these people disbelieve in the doctrine of resurrection? God said: "Nay, they are disbelievers in the meeting with their Lord." They fear meeting God. They fear standing before God. But the believer knows that he will meet a merciful Lord. Therefore, the believer desires to meet God and loves to meet Him. If a servant loves to meet God, God loves to meet him. And if he dislikes meeting God, God dislikes to meet him. God hates to meet them. Therefore, our Lord emphasized the importance of the believer loving to meet his Lord. For if he loves to meet his Lord, he will stay away from sin, and if he hates to meet his Lord, he will indulge in sin. Our Lord says about them: "And they will say, 'When we are lost in the earth, we will surely be in a new creation.'" The reason that led them to deny the belief in resurrection was their fear of meeting their Lord. They feared that their Lord would punish them for their sins, their transgressions, and their wrongdoings. Then the Quran moved on to affirm death and what comes after it. God said: “Say, ‘The angel of death who has been entrusted with you will take you, then to your Lord you will be returned.’” This is what the Quran seeks to establish; what the Quran seeks to establish is the end of the verse: “then to your Lord you will...
