After the purchase, unrelated stallions were added to this herd, and the quality of the new foals immediately improved significantly. ► The herd at Alakol-Agro is formed according to the following principle: first, three-year-old mares are recruited, then four-year-old stallions are added to the herd, with the entire herd being of the same breed. ► However, in this herd, which includes mares of different breeds, elite stallions of a single breed were added. And already this year, foals have been born with more pronounced productive qualities. Gradually, the herd will match the parameters of the farm's other horses. ► Contrary to the popular belief that Kazakhs eat any horse meat, Baurzhan Kenesbekovich explained that in horse breeding, there is a specialization among breeds: for example, sport breeds, which in ancient times served as fighting breeds, are given names – they are not eaten. Generally, horses named by their owners are not only not eaten, but they are not even ridden after the owner's death. Other breeds, such as heavy draft horses, do not have sufficient taste, so not all breeds are suitable for eating. ► According to Bauyrzhan Kenesbekovich, horses are not herded, but gathered. This is due to their agility: horses can travel 100 km in a single night in bad weather. Therefore, horse breeding often uses technological tools, such as GPS sensors, to track herds of horses wherever they go. ► Not all stallions can work in herds. For example, stallions raised at home are not used for breeding; only those raised semi-freely, in herds, are used. ► Foals can be foaled at 7, 9 months, and at the latest at 11 months. Mares typically give birth starting in late March, in April, and in May.
