On June 17, in Versailles, Trump and Iran signed a truce. Twenty-three days later, the United States bombed more than 170 Iranian targets in two nights, and Tehran launched missiles at four countries in the region. It was all because of one poorly written sentence: paragraph 5 of the memorandum, which Americans and Iranians interpreted in opposite ways. In this episode, we read that paragraph together and reconstruct how a ceasefire is dismantled piece by piece: the revocation of the oil waiver, the bombings on the Iranian coast, the response in the Gulf countries, Khamenei's funeral amid mourning crowds and stone-pelting negotiators. Then we try to understand the most significant strategic reversal of the week: why the Strait of Hormuz—its "golden weapon"—has become more valuable to Tehran than the nuclear program for which it accepted decades of sanctions, and why Washington has no Plan C. We follow the regime's arm into European cities, where Iranian dissidents live under police protection, and to Israeli intelligence on a plan to kill Trump. We cross the other front: Putin opting for escalation, the fiber-optic drones shutting down Ukraine's power grid, the classified documents exposing the military alliance between Russia and China. And we end where all this really hits: Italian paychecks, which will lose 0.9% of their purchasing power in 2026.
