1951 Delaware Memorial Bridge Dedication
The Delaware State Archives is pleased to present the Delaware Memorial Bridge Dedication from August 15, 1951. This film features many public officials from Delaware and New Jersey, including: Governor Carvel, Governor Driscoll (New Jersey), Francis V. Dupont, J. H. Tyler McConnell (Highway Commissioner), Frank A. Dupont, Father Joseph A. Endwright, Highway Commissioner Culvert, Commission Chairman J. Gordon Smith, Lt. Governor Bayard, New Jersey Medal of Honor winner Captain Carlton Rouh, Cornell William A. McWilliams (Director of the Delaware Crossing Division of the State Highway Department), Secretary of State McDowell, Suzan Parrott, James P. Connor (Medal of Honor Winner), R. E. Desomoney of Merit Chaplin and Scott Corp., and Frank McDonnell, President of American Bridge Co. The film includes the dedication of the official plaque, the Delaware National Guard Playing Taps, the Ribbon cutting, and cars crossing the bridge for the first time, and is from the Delaware State Highway Department Collection.
