Mediating the peaceful management of natural resources in the Sahel

Some natural resources are a recurrent source of conflict between their users. The networks of agro-pastoral mediators set up by HD in more than 130 border communities in Burkina Faso, Mali, Mauritania, Niger and Chad - who strive to resolve disputes over access to natural resources - can, in this case, call on HD to support them in mediating local conventions for the peaceful exploitation of the resource. HD, therefore, helps the networks to revive traditional mechanisms for managing these natural resources and supports the formulation of local agreements in writing. This prevents them from being called into question and facilitates their dissemination, particularly to people outside a given area.
