1980’s National 56” Ceiling Fan | Pre Restoration!
Filmed & description written in 23rd of July 2024 Believe it or not, I first learnt about the existence of this fan about 2 years prior to Covid. Before that I thought this style of Matsushita ceiling fan only ever came with shallow pitch contoured blades in 48” & 56” diameters, when it turns out they make em from 36” to 60”. Yes, Matsushita made these as big as 60 inches, complete with the ridiculously long ‘Singapore style’ blade arms! As tou know, I’m a big fan of fans that work more on pitch than RPM, so I felt like I had to get one someday. In the years that have gone by since I watched the National F560Y video from @pankaat, I’ve only seen 2 adverts for these old Matsushita fans. One 48” unit popped up 3 years ago, but I responded to the ad a few hours too late. Not until recently that I found the 2nd ad, which is for this fan here! This fan is pretty well preserved considering the amount of time it’s spent in circulation! Only 2 blades are slightly bent, there isn’t that much rust on the parts, the motor & capacitor are still healthy, and the plastics haven’t degraded much. Sure the regulator has a hole cut on its side & the center badge on the motor is broken, but those are easily fixable problems. The things I always wanted to know from a fan like this are the actual model number, as some local fan enthusiasts have insisted in the past that this fan is a F560Y, and now I know that the actual model number is F-EY144. The second thing is how well I executed my replica of the blades on my custom 50” ceiling fan. I always knew that the position of the bend is wrong, but what caught me by surprise is that the pitch on my replica fan blade is actually deeper! I have yet to find out how this fan performs in a wide open room, but judging by the amount of airflow it created in my ‘cramped for a 56” fan’ room, I think can safely say that this fan beats out its newer version, the F-EY149! #CeilingFan
