When and how to do spring pruning of thornless garden mulberries? Spring pruning, or production and fruit-normalizing pruning, of thornless cultivated mulberries is done in March immediately after the frosts have passed. If the cleaning pruning of mulberries was not done in the fall, then it must be done in the spring before the fruiting pruning:    • Taierea de toamna la muri fara tepi - taie...   Fruiting pruning consists of shortening the main mulberry shoots depending on their size. Vigorous shoots are cut to approximately 2 m in height and the young and thinner ones between 1 m and 1.5 m. In principle, young shoots that are thinner than the thickness of a pencil are removed. Secondary shoots that appear laterally on the main vigorous shoots are shortened to 20-40 cm depending on their thickness. Those at the base are cut longer and those at the top are cut shorter. Secondary shoots growing close to the ground are removed because the fruits formed on them will be left on the ground and will spoil. The aim of fruiting pruning on blackberries is to preserve the production wood so that a balance is formed between quality and quantity. A lot of wood means high production but small and poor quality fruits. Spring pruning is one of the mandatory works on blackberries.
