We love old Japanese houses and buildings. We loved the Fujiya Hotel in Hakone and returned many times, eventually purchasing an old house in a mountain village in Tsu City, Mie Prefecture. We also love Ginzan Onsen in Yamagata. The atmosphere of that inn is irresistible. And the hot springs are amazing! We've stayed at Notoya Ryokan, which was also the setting for the TV drama "Oshin," many times, but we've never been able to get a reservation. This time, miraculously, we were able to get a reservation! And it was a great room right by the river! You might think it's expensive, but it was only 27,500 yen per person! Of course, dinner and breakfast are included! There are also three hot springs! After staying there, I realized that it's no wonder it's so popular, it's no wonder it's hard to get a reservation.
