Industrial Automation can not be complete without communication and so various communication protocols were designed. One of the earliest protocol was RS-232. Due to the various limitations of RS-232, multiple RS protocols were designed and RS-485 is one of the most versatile protocol among them. RS-485 have many good useful features for an industrial communication environment. It can provide data rate up to 10 mbps and cable length could be up to 1200 m. Its noise immunity due to the differential signaling is also very useful in industries. In this video we will come to know about the features and working principle of RS-485 standard. We will also know which type of connectors are used in RS-485 compliant devices. Circuit diagram of half duplex and full duplex RS-485 networks are also explained in this video.
