Gercüş'te sumak hasadı başladı

The harvest of sumac grown in vineyards in Batman's Gercüş district has begun. Producers, who will harvest approximately 4 tons of sumac this year, are selling it for 25 lira per kilogram. Sumac harvesting has begun in the village of Çiçekli, Gercüş. Cultivated extensively in vineyards, sumac has become a source of income for the villagers. The sumac harvested from the vineyards is transported by horseback to homes, processed, and then offered to consumers. Producers, who will harvest approximately 4 tons of sumac this year, are selling it for 25 lira per kilogram. Selami Altun, a resident of Çiçekli village who grows sumac, stated that the sumac harvest this year has been productive, saying, "We come early in the morning and harvest the sumac. The sumac harvest is better than in previous years. This is because the abundance of rainfall this year has increased the sumac yield even more. Everyone who has a sumac field in this village makes a living by getting a good yield. Sumac isn't very difficult to grow either. We collect it, take it home, beat it with a stick, then strain it through a sieve and sort it. Sumac, a completely organic, natural source of healing, has countless benefits. This year, we will harvest approximately 4 tons of sumac in the village. We sell the sumac we produce wholesale for 25 lira per kilo. This has become the village's largest source of income."
