Traumhaftes Naturparadies Muckenkogel wo die Wiege des alpinen Schisports stand

The 1,248-meter-high Muckenkogel and the 1,313-meter-high Hinteralm are among the most beautiful panoramic mountains in Lower Austria. The view extends north across the Danube Valley and south far into the Alps. The Muckenkogel is particularly well-developed, with welcoming mountain huts and well-marked hiking trails of varying difficulty. The Muckenkogel in Lilienfeld in the Mostviertel region is considered the cradle of alpine skiing. In the 1890s, the Lilienfeld ski pioneer Mathias Zdarsky developed the steel-soled binding and the corresponding skiing technique. The first ski race in history was held on the Muckenkogel in 1905.
