FIRST YEAR NURSING PLACEMENTS // How to learn on placement as a first year student nurse
Worried about what will be expected of you in placement? Starting your first clinical placement as a student nurse is both nerve-wracking and exciting! In this video, we will discuss how you can learn the most on placement and how you can overcome some of those nerves. You will start your day off with a clinical handover from the nurse in charge of the previous shift. Nursing handovers can be filled with medical jargon and this can be off-putting, but you can use handovers as a learning opportunity but highlighting any parts you don't understand to then go and learn all about whatever it is. Once you take handover, you will get allocated to a nurse for the shift, and you will plan your shift together. Use a shift planner to do this, and highlight any potential learning opportunities throughout the day. There is so much going on in the clinical environment to learn from, and by listening in handover you will begin to pick up the exciting nursing duties taking place on your shift. The aim of this video is to relax you into your first-year student nursing placements so you can begin to understand how many opportunities to learn in practice there are. š„ Take a look at some other videos: Placement expectations: Ā Ā Ā ā¢Ā HowĀ toĀ StartĀ ClinicalĀ PlacementĀ asĀ aĀ Stude...Ā Ā How to get feedback on placement: Ā Ā Ā ā¢Ā GETĀ FEEDBACKĀ ONĀ PLACEMENTĀ Ā Nursing handover help: Ā Ā Ā ā¢Ā StudentĀ NurseĀ HandoverĀ HelpĀ -Ā PartĀ 1Ā //Ā Wh...Ā Ā SMART objectives: Ā Ā Ā ā¢Ā FIRSTĀ YEARĀ STUDENTĀ NURSEĀ TIPSĀ //Ā SMARTĀ lea...Ā Ā š Some essentials for students: Essential clinical skills for nurses: https://amzn.to/37vBPWH Drug calculations for student nurses: https://amzn.to/3KJAGsM Pocket notebook for placement: https://amzn.to/3w1OfQp Multicolour Pens: https://amzn.to/3MNv1Uy Nurse's fob watch: https://amzn.to/3JeGwSD Hand cream is a must too; try something like Aquamax for when you sleep: https://amzn.to/3q4l1wo š” Equipment I love to use: āØļø Apple Magic Keyboard (so lovely to type on): https://amzn.to/3wm4d82 š» Very compact Laptop Stand: https://amzn.to/3KW4Qcp š± Powerful Wireless Mouse: https://amzn.to/3KZkZhj š¤ USB Extender bank with separate switches: https://amzn.to/3qiTebu š¦ External Hard Drive (pricey but so worth it!): https://amzn.to/3KUGobs š My 'Rode VideoMicro' microphone: https://amzn.to/3q6p0sp š„ My iPhone tripod with light: https://amzn.to/3q4NrpT š My blue light glasses to protect the old sight: https://amzn.to/3wiDx83 š Letās stay in touch: IG: Ā Ā /Ā nursebenrnĀ Ā Twitter: Ā Ā /Ā nursebenrnĀ Ā LinkedIn: Ā Ā /Ā benlowrnĀ Ā Disclaimer: some of the links above might be affiliate links which just means I will receive a kickback (but *you donāt pay any extra*) if you buy any of the suff using these links š It is just a way to support the channel.
