Exploring some of the best overland and off-road trails in the Sierra Nevada, we connect the Long Canyon 4WD Trail, Strawberry Pass 4WD Trail, and Lost Lakes Trail into one continuous backcountry route through El Dorado National Forest. Starting near Kyburz and traveling south past Highway 88, this trip features remote forest trails, granite obstacles, technical 4x4 terrain, alpine lakes, dispersed camping, and classic Sierra Nevada scenery deep in the California backcountry. Our convoy includes a Lexus GX470, Toyota Land Cruiser, Lexus LX450, Toyota FJ Cruiser, and a 1987 Suzuki Samurai tackling rocky climbs, narrow shelf roads, creek crossings, and rugged mountain trails while camping along the Long Canyon trail and at East Lake in the Lost Lakes basin. This is classic Toyota overlanding and Sierra Nevada off-roading — campfires, trail repairs, camp cooking, lakeside campsites, drone footage, and multi-day adventure travel through some of Northern California’s best hidden 4WD routes.
