MikroTik RB1100AHx2 Repair No Power Issue

This is a router we pulled from our Bayou L'Ourse tower back in 2016 when we upgraded to a CCR-1016. When we went to pull this router out the rack as soon as I unscrewed the router from the rack it powered down. After investigating the issue it turns out that this router had a blown Zero Ohm Resistor that bridges the Negative side of the Power Supply to the Negative Buss on the Main Board. I simply removed the bad component and replaced it with a jumper. The reason it was still working with the bad component is it was getting its path to the negative terminal through the rack it was bolted to. Had we not powered this device through the POE port when this component failed the router would have went offline! Zero Ohm Resistors are used mostly so that an automated machine can install jumpers onto PCBs. They use a common package such as a resistor so that it requires not human intervention. The machine just picks up the component and places it like it any other component. Zero Ohm Resistors are also used for configuration options for the same reason, They are used as future trouble shooting tools when some products are in development. For example if I needed to trouble shoot the power supply of this router I could simply remove the resistor from the board and work on the power section with out powering the whole router up.. As this component has no real value to the router I decided it was easiest to just remove it and place a jumper in its place.
