On August 18 of that year, Busan was designated as the provisional capital, and countless refugees flocked there. The Provisional Capital Memorial Hall, the official residence of former President Syngman Rhee, remains in Busan, a testament to the history of that time. At a time when finding a decent place to live was difficult due to the sheer number of people, we explore Ami-dong and Uam-dong, two neighborhoods steeped in the joys and sorrows of refugees. Those who fled to Busan sought refuge in deep, high places. The refugees who ventured to the Japanese cemetery formed a village in Ami-dong, a former Japanese cemetery and crematorium. Today, it's a "Monument Culture Village," where traces of history remain. To meet the people of Ami-dong, who console the spirits of the Japanese who offered their homes to the refugees, we visit Daeseongsa Temple in Ami-dong. Meanwhile, in Uam-dong, Nam-gu, named for the large rock on the hill that resembles a cow, there was a "Cattle Quarantine Station" during the Japanese colonial period, where cattle were inspected for export to Japan. The somaksa (small barracks) within the barracks became a refuge for Koreans who returned to Korea after liberation and for refugees during the Korean War. Gong Gyeong-sik, a second-generation refugee who grew up in Somak Village, says that for the refugees at the time, the somaksa was practically a hotel... After industrialization, people who had better living conditions began buying other houses or building two-story extensions. The second floor was built wider than the narrow first floor, creating what are known as "gabunsu" houses. Furthermore, Yoo Sang-mo, who fled to Busan from Heungnam with his parents, has been making milmyeon, a Busan specialty, for five generations, a dish his maternal grandmother made. Now, in Busan, which has become another hometown, they continue to make milmyeon (milmyeon) filled with longing for their hometown...
