We threw ourselves headlong into repair work and preparing the boat for the Pacific Ocean. We berthed the yacht in Panama, expecting to stay only a couple of weeks. The refit ultimately involved more than a month of shoreside stays and a virtually complete refit of the yacht. Shaft and propeller maintenance, hull sanding, new antifouling coating, fuel system replacement, new electrical system, water system upgrades, engine refit, hull hole repairs, keel alignment, keel bolt removal, fuse installation, and sail repairs—just a small part of the work we completed ashore.
