The singer, who grew up in a Seattle suburb and had little interest in music until some pals asked him to join their band, fits comfortably in both ballads and bangers. And he’s a doer, playing several of the instruments on his tracks, and providing some of the artwork. He was on the ‘American Idol’ train ‘til he stepped away and connected with Imagine Dragons’ Dan Reynolds, who compliments Benson every chance he gets.
