Ces maladies rénales que l'on croyait sans cause : la révolution de la génomique (1/2)
Some kidney diseases once considered "without cause" may not be so. Thanks to advances in genomics, it is now possible to identify genetic abnormalities responsible for kidney diseases that remained unexplained just a few years ago. To discuss this, I am joined by Professor Laurent Mesnard, head of the nephrology department at Tenon Hospital in Paris, and Dr. Thomas Robert, head of the genomics unit at Saint-Joseph Hospital in Marseille. In this first part, we discuss the growing role of genomics in nephrology, the most frequently diagnosed kidney diseases of genetic origin, the patients for whom genetic testing can be offered, and how these analyses concretely change diagnosis and treatment. We also address a central question: why are some kidney diseases long considered to be of "undetermined origin" now being explained through genome analysis? #KidneyDisease #Genetics #Genomics #Nephrology #HealthPodcast #NephroSocialClub
