ESMO 2025: Aktuelles zum Thema HER2-positiver Brustkrebs

News from the ESMO (European Society for Medical Oncology) Congress. In this video, Professor Sherko Kümmel from the Essen Mitte Breast Center discusses two studies on HER2-positive breast cancer with patient representative Alexandra von Korff from patients today. First, the DESTINY-Breast11 study is discussed, which is aimed at patients with newly diagnosed, HER2-positive (HER2+), early breast cancer with a high risk of recurrence. Treatment with T-DXd was compared to the current standard therapy, which is based on chemotherapy. The goal was to increase the rate of pathological complete remissions. Professor Kümmel then presents the DESTINY-Breast05 study, which is aimed at patients with HER2+, early breast cancer in whom residual tumor tissue is still detectable after chemotherapy before surgery (neoadjuvant therapy) – an indicator of a higher risk of recurrence. The study compares whether T-DXd is more effective than the current standard therapy with T-DM1 after surgery in preventing relapse. The primary goal was to extend disease-free survival.
