A Drive from Black Hawk to Avon in Colorado

We drive through the casino district of Black Hawk, CO before heading south on Colorado SR 119. We take this highway a few miles through a winding canyon until we reach US Highway 6. This highway takes us west through another winding, rocky canyon and some tunnels to reach Interstate 70 West. We stay on I-70 all the way to Avon, CO. Along the way we pass through the continental divide using the Eisenhower Tunnel. This 1.7 mile long tunnel sits at an elevation of 11,013 feet. We descend the long grade after the tunnel only to immediate start ascending again to 10,662 foot Vail Pass. We descend the west side of this pass through Vail and on to Avon.
