June 17th 2026 Illinois Supercells and Tornados timelapse

We followed a fast moving, tornado warned Supercell from Springfield Illinois to Mattoon then let it go to catch the next one in line. The storm had a big wet RFD and the environment was not yet conducive to tornadic supercells due to the morning MCS and lack of low level lapse rates. This would change in the next few hours and the next supercell we saw produced a rain wrapped tornado in Charleston to our north. We then went back west and south to catch the 3rd storm and after driving through Newton, we could see the Effingham tornado in progress some 15 miles to our west-northwest. We moved closer to it as it moved east and passed by and roped out to the north. With Tempest Tours Jeremey Woodhouse Photo Tour 7B www.tempesttours.com
