If an older adult has sudden cognitive changes, it may be due to a treatable medical condition, rather than the onset of dementia (dementia usually comes on slowly over years). Several medical concerns can cause dementia-like symptoms and so can some medications. If a senior has rapid or sudden cognitive issues, please take them to their medical professional as soon as possible.
