Aaron Bruno, Awolnation frontman, jumped from band to band (Under the Influence of Giants, Hometown Hero and Insurgence) until he found the right fit in this group. He named the band after his high school nickname, AWOL (Absence Without Leave). He received this due to him leaving without saying goodbye to people. Bruno was approached by Red Bull Records and was asked if he wanted to use their studio for free. From there, he wrote his own songs, recorded them, eventually signed with the label, and went on to perform for his fans.
