We've come to the Casa de la Villa, the seat of Madrid's City Council for over 300 years, to learn about its history and explore its interior. Did you know that Madrid didn't have a City Hall building until 1696, and the Council met for centuries in the Church of San Salvador? Well, don't miss this video because we'll discover many stories and interesting facts. And we'll see images you probably haven't seen before. The main part is an extensive tour of the Casa de la Villa. We'll visit all its representative rooms to admire and learn about the artistic and historical legacy of every corner. Before that, an introduction to the unique Plaza de la Villa and some notes on the history and architecture of the building. 0:00 1--- INTRO. On our visit to the City Hall, we first encounter the famous Mariblanca statue, whose original is preserved at the entrance, and whose busy history we will learn about. After ascending the grand staircase and peeking into the Secretary General's Office, we arrive at the Royal Room with portraits of several of the kings who presided over the Plenary Hall. In the Royal Hall, we admire the magnificent ceiling with the Habsburg coat of arms and three large paintings, including a copy of the Allegory of the City, whose extraordinary history we will reveal. The Monstrance Room houses the valuable silver processional monstrance used for Corpus Christi in Madrid, dating from 1574 and belonging to the City Council. Did you know that? Discover the details. The Crystal Courtyard is a reception hall created in the former courtyard, featuring a magnificent stained-glass window by the Maumejean workshop. The Plenary Hall boasts magnificent decoration befitting its central role, preserving on its ceiling the Apology of Charles II, a large painting from 1692 signed by Antonio Palomino in honor of the monarch. The former Chapel, recently restored, is entirely decorated with a series of frescoes by Antonio Palomino from 1696 depicting the Virgin Mary, Saint Isidore and his wife, and including effigies of the Habsburgs. Finally, in the Carriage Room, we see a reproduction of the famous Montevideo monument and numerous portraits of former mayors of Madrid. This is just a glimpse of what you can see in all its detail in the video. Don't miss it. #casadelavilla #casadelavillamadrid #lacasadelavilla
