Tokyo's Summer Tradition "Festival of Light": Mitama Matsuri From July 13th to 16th, the "Mitama Matsuri" will be held. This event began in 1947 as a way to honor the spirits of those who sacrificed their precious lives for their country. Every year, in addition to lanterns inscribed by prominent figures from various fields, 30,000 "Miakashi" lanterns donated by bereaved families and devotees are displayed on the shrine grounds. During the festival, portable shrine processions, Bon Odori dances, and various devotional performances are held, creating a lively atmosphere on the shrine grounds.
