Spawn Compendium 1 – The Ultimate Introduction to Spawn | My Review

Volume 1 of the Spawn compendium series contains the first 50 Spawn comics, all in one beautifully put together book. The book is paperback & quite heavy. The artwork in the Spawn compendium volume 1 is absolutely stunning & is a huge upgrade from the art print quality from the original spawn comics (individual issues.). In volume 1, the art print quality underwent a massive modern upgrade & the quality is a 10/10. The pages have a semi-gloss sheen to them & look much better than the original comics which were printed on paper that resembles thick newspaper paper. My only issue with the Compendium is that the comics of each individual comic are not included. Why they left these out of this book is a mystery to me. Why would they leave the awesome comic covers out? Maybe in the future they will fix this issue, as it seems to be one of the most common criticisms of these books. There are multiple compendium volumes. My issue with the Spawn compendiums that came after Volume 1 is that the artwork was altered, which is not the case with Volume 1. In later volumes, certain pages were recolored or digitally edited, which changes the original aesthetic and vision of the artwork. These changes can detract from the gritty, raw style that made Spawn so iconic in its early days.
