This video shows how to make a homemade lithium battery for your Monkey! The Turbo Monkey is self-starting, so instead of a 4A-BS, I use a 4L-BS, which is one size larger. If it were a kick-start type, there wouldn't be any issues, but the starter motor's inrush current is a problem. The battery is an 18650 lithium iron phosphate, so it's a relatively safe design! I also measured the internal resistance, and it was all under 30mΩ. [Trivia] The quickest way to get cells to spin faster is to increase the voltage. No matter how high the current, if the voltage is low, they won't spin as fast! Lithium iron phosphate batteries are rated at 3.2V, but can be charged up to 3.6V. Four 3.6V batteries in series equals 14.4V, so they'll spin faster when fully charged. However, in terms of battery life, it's better to operate them at around 80% charge. But since batteries themselves are cheap, you can just make new ones if you notice any deterioration. You'll understand their durability as you use them. Raising the voltage too much can affect other devices, so adjust it accordingly.
