HupeCast com Cristiane Murad – Inúmeros benefícios dos esportes na adolescência

The 17th episode of HupeCast reminds us that practicing sports during adolescence is crucial for holistic development, combating sedentary lifestyles and promoting physical health (muscle/cardiovascular strengthening, weight control) and mental health, reducing stress and anxiety. In this sense, we present to you the Multidisciplinary Outpatient Clinic for Comprehensive Care for Adolescent Athletes, an alliance between the Center for Adolescent Health Studies (Nesa/Uerj), the Pedro Ernesto University Hospital (Hupe/Uerj), and the Faculty of Medical Sciences (FCM/Uerj). Its objective is assistance, teaching, research, and outreach, serving adolescent athletes in high-performance, competitive sports, aged 12 to 18. It arose from the lack of services aimed at this population within the public health system. “We need to reinforce the importance of looking at this individual from an early age to ensure healthy growth and development, prevent injuries, and avoid dropping out of sports due to mental health issues,” says Dr. Cristiane Murad, a physician and professor of Adolescent Medicine. It is worthwhile to follow the conversation about the structure and services of this clinic, which works to ensure that young people develop as athletes without compromising their health.
