Riding Oat and Barley Canyons: A New Mexico Classic
Join us for a classic ride in the Jemez mountains. This is the Oat and Barley Canyon Loop. The loop is just over 13 miles long and is mostly a 2 track Mountain bike loop with some singletrack if you keep your eyes peeled. About the Jemez Mountains & Valles Caldera: The Jemez Mountains are a stunning volcanic mountain range in northern New Mexico, famous for their deep red rock canyons, lush alpine forests, and hidden hot springs. At the heart of the range lies the Valles Caldera National Preserve—a massive, 13-mile-wide collapsed volcano crater. Formed over a million years ago, this high-altitude "supervolcano" basin is now a sprawling grassland meadow teeming with elk and surrounded by forested volcanic domes. It offers some of the most unique and scenic terrain for outdoor adventures in the Southwest. Lots of potential for this area for some great single track trail building if the national park service wanted to do it.
