Fishing in Karelia in July 2026. The fishermen weren't expecting this. They headed out to a small forest lake in a boat with an electric motor to try their luck and catch a predatory fish. Spinning in the summer is exciting. The lake is stocked with pike and perch. We inflated the PVC boat, installed a new electric motor, and headed out. It was warm July weather, 18 degrees Celsius, but overcast and cloudy. Untouched, pristine nature and a beautiful forest surrounded us. We reached the first promising spot, and after a few casts, a fish struck, and there it was, a powerful attack from a predatory fish—a large perch. I thought it was a pike, but when I saw the brightly colored fins, I realized it was a huge, big-faced perch. My hands shook as I saw and held the fish; it was pure luck—so lucky. It caught a handmade silver spoon with a stone. We fished new coastal areas with spinning rods and tested the new boat and motor setup. We decided to troll and change locations, and we found some snags and caught some mussels. The evening dawn fishing was a success, and the catch was both pleasing and surprising.
