During that time, a DOW (Doppler on Wheels) recorded the winds of the twister. The Moore F5 tornado would go down in history as the strongest tornado on record by wind speed, with the DOW recording winds of 321mph. A few tornadoes have gotten close to breaking that 300mph threshold, but only 2 others have. The 2013 El Reno EF3, and most recently (and the topic of this video), the 2024 Greenfield EF4 Tornado. On May 21, 2024, a series of strong to violent tornadoes touched down across the midwest. Most notably, was a violent tornado that tore through part of the city of Greenfield. While moving through the town it had an instantaneous gust of 309-318mph, one of the strongest wind speeds ever observed from a tornado. So today, let's talk about the outbreak as a whole, with a deep dive into the Greenfield Tornado, which currently lies as one of, if not the strongest tornado recorded thus far in the 2020s.
