Today’s feature is a group that embodied what it was to be from the New York streets in an era like the 90s and early 2000s. Their music is synonymous to gangster rap and what it means to be appreciated more underground than mainstream. More than the music, everything about the artist screams we do this for our true fans and not to solicit the biggest payday. It’s honorable and a true testament to their dedication and genuine love for music to be able to stay true to that for over 20 years and never really waiver, even though caught in a time they could se the changes right in front of them to make rap more marketable. When it comes to hardcore New York hip hop from any era, it doesn’t get more pin point in representation than I’d say M.O.P. and throw Onyx in their as well for making the hardest hip hop song in history in slam, placed right next to Ante Up. Don’t forget the remix, which to me was so much more enjoyable to see Busta spit one of his best featured verses, and a young, Remy Ma before anyone even M.O.P. even really knew her. They had chance after chance to clean up and follow the path of a lot of street artist gone marketable, and would’ve gained a lot more to add to their resume, but stayed true to themselves and gained respect instead.
