Formerly a suburban settlement located west of Kharkiv's Nagorny District on the right bank of the Lopan River; later, around 1810, it merged with the city. The Goncharovskaya Sloboda became famous thanks to the writer Grigory Kvitka-Osnovyanenko and his play "Matchmaking at Goncharovka" (1835). In the last quarter of the 17th century, suburban settlements, primarily populated by artisans, emerged around the Kharkiv Fortress. These settlements included Zalopanska (the historical district of Zalopan, on the right bank of the Lopan River), Ivanovka (the Lysaya Hora area), and Panasovka. By the late 18th century, Zalopanska was already part of the city, its western border protected by the city's fortress wall. On a 1787 city map, to the west, outside the city wall, between Yekaterinoslavskaya Street (today's Poltavsky Shlyakh Street) and the Lopan River, is the suburban settlement of Afanasyevka, near which brick factories were located. An earthen rampart ran west of the settlement, leading north to the Lopan River. North of Afanasyevka, on the other side of Yekaterinoslavskaya Street, was the suburban settlement of Dovgalevka. On a map from 1804, the names of the settlements have already been changed: Afanasyevka is located in the north, and Dovgalevka in the south. This same placement remains on later maps, indicating an error by the cartographers of 1787. Craftsmen engaged in ceramics (pottery) settled in Dovgalevka, and after some time, the settlement was named Goncharovskaya. In the 18th century, public festivities were held annually on Goncharovsky Meadow, which separated the city from the settlement (now the site of Marshal Konev Street). The daily life and lives of the residents of this area are vividly described in Grigory Fyodorovich Kvitka-Osnovyanenko's famous work "Matchmaking for Goncharivtsi." By the early 19th century, Goncharovka had grown significantly. According to the 1817 city plan, the settlement merged with Rozhdestvenskaya (today's Kontorskaya) Street in the early 19th century. At that time, Sredne-Goncharovskaya Street, renamed Goncharovsky Boulevard in the second half of the 19th century, formed on the site of the former Goncharovsky Meadow, which separated the settlement from the city. A large typolithography shop (later Printing House No. 2) opened here in the late 19th century. In 1973, Goncharovsky Boulevard was renamed Koneva Street. In 1937, for the 20th anniversary of the October Revolution, the Goncharovskaya Dam was built on the Lopan River opposite Goncharovsky Boulevard to impound the waters of the Lopan and Kharkiv rivers. From 1996 to 2005, this dam supported navigation in the Lopan Spit area.
