The same design found in all movements in the Oyster collection gives this model unparalleled reliability. Now a style icon, the watch has been forgiven for its shortcomings. Rolex Submariner owners typically describe their watch very briefly: "put it on and forget it." This suggests that it's versatile due to its good water resistance and the case's thickness, which is acceptable for a diving watch. It's also a perfect weight, reliable, accurate, and easy to maintain. But the flip side of this phrase is that the watch doesn't wow. It's hard to catch the eye with any new, unusual design elements. And it's also difficult to acquire—you have to wait about a year for a new one, and you'll pay half as much for a used one—a paradox. It's a Rolex, and that says it all.
