Point Roberts is an American town that cannot function without Canada, and right now it is finding out exactly what that means. This little piece of Washington state sits at the bottom of a peninsula you can only reach by driving through British Columbia, and for decades Canadian money kept the whole place alive. Then the tariffs hit, the border traffic dried up, and the begging started. In this video I break down how Trump's tariffs and the wider Canada US trade war gutted the local economy, why the only grocery store went from thousands of customers a week down to a fraction of that, and how one business that survived COVID and 9/11 still could not survive losing its Canadian customers. Almost the entire town runs on Canadian visitors, Canadian homeowners, even Canadian water and power, yet the plan to fix it seems to be waiting for Canadians to come back and rescue them. Here is my take. This is an American town, hit by an American tariff, signed by an American president. The losses are real, but they are not ours to absorb.
