From The Flight Deck – Long Island MacArthur Airport – Islip, NY (ISP)
FAA's From the Flight Deck video series provides pilots with actual runway approach and airport taxiway footage captured with aircraft-mounted cameras, combined with diagrams and visual graphics to clearly identify hot spots and other safety-sensitive items. Visit https://www.faa.gov/isp for supplemental "pilot handbook" information on this airport including airport-specific cautions, information local controllers want pilots to know, airport communications, airspace details and other preflight planning resources. To address wrong surface events where an aircraft lines up to or lands on the incorrect runway, taxiway, or airport, the FAA released Arrival Alert Notices (AAN) at various airports with a history of misalignment risk. View the ISP Arrival Alert Notice here: https://www.faa.gov/airports/runway_s... Airport in this video: Long Island MacArthur Airport, Islip, NY (ISP) ----- Airport Diagram/Description: 00:25 1:10 - Parallel Runways. As with most airports with parallel runways and/or staggered thresholds, this can present a challenge for pilots, and situational awareness is important. 2:04 - Unauthorized runway crossings. Pilots are reminded that a clearance to a runway does not authorize a crossing of that runway with a clearance. This is especially problematic at the intersection of taxiway W and runway 6-24, where the taxiway crosses the runway at an oblique angle. 2:41 - Taxiway B4 & Taxiway E. Taxiway B4 and Taxiway E are not aligned with one another across runway 33L. As a result, pilots have inadvertently turned onto runway 33L, instead of continuing on taxiway E. 3:30 - Approach holds. Always be aware of where approach holds are located. It is advised to read-back all hold short instructions. --------------- We hope this short video will assist you in your trip to Long Island MacArthur Airport, Islip, NY (ISP). It's always better to know before you go! For More Information: http://www.faa.gov/airports/runway_sa...
