Kumkuat(Kamkat) Ağacı Nasıl Budanır?
PRUNING FRUIT TREES For fruit trees to produce abundant and high-quality fruit, the soil must be cultivated, watered, fertilized, sprayed, and pruned. Pruned trees produce more abundantly and in a shorter period. A pruned tree grows more rapidly than an unpruned tree in a single growing season. Pruning refers to processes such as branch cutting, branch bending, branch thinning, topping, and widening branch angles in fruit trees. The procedures, rules, and precautions related to pruning are applicable to all fruit trees. THE BENEFITS OF PRUNING ARE AS FOLLOWS: 1- We can shape the crown as desired. Unpruned trees have irregular crowns. 2- Adequate sunlight is ensured within the inner part of the tree. Fruits from branches exposed to sunlight are large and high-quality. 3- Thinning ensures ventilation within the inner part of the tree. Fungal diseases are common in trees that lack ventilation. 4- Branch breakage due to excessive fruit load is prevented. 5- Yield reductions are prevented. Trees with overgrown branches don't have as much fruit set. 6- Alternating seasons, that is, the occurrence of one crop and then another, are prevented. Before pruning, we need to disinfect our pruning shears and saw with a suitable disinfectant (for example, one prepared by mixing one teaspoon of bleach with one liter of water). This is important to prevent the spread of diseases from diseased trees. Pruning of fruit trees is generally done during the winter dormancy period, when the weather is not too cold. In the Aegean and Mediterranean regions, because winters are not very cold, it can be done in the fall after the trees have shed their leaves. In other parts of Turkey, it is done after the severe winter cold has passed, before the trees wake up. THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN PRUNING: 1- If the side branches of a leader branch are left in a narrow V-shape, the risk of splitting and consequently breaking is very high when they begin to bear fruit. When leaving side branches, care should be taken to ensure they extend like a hand pointing to 10 or 2 o'clock. 2- Prune approximately 3 mm from the bud. Leaving a nail too long, or cutting too close to the bud, is a poor pruning practice. 3- Prune the branches at a 45-degree angle to the ground, meaning they should be sloped enough to prevent water from standing on them. If they are parallel to the ground, standing rainwater can cause fungal diseases. 4- Prune branches to encourage outward growth and expansion. 5- Weak, diseased, injured, or narrow-angled branches, as well as forked branches, should be removed at one fork. 6- We should also make sure to trim branches that grow vertically and extend towards the center of the tree. 7- Side branches left from the leader branch should be spaced 10-15 cm apart. 8- In trees like plum, apricot, and peach, instead of leaving a single leader branch, 3-5 main branches rising from the trunk are selected to give the tree a vase-shaped appearance. 9- These branches should be pruned to a height of 1-1.5 meters from the main trunk. 10- When pruning, it is important to pay attention to competing branches. One competing branch is cut, while the other is relaxed. 11- Branch breakage can sometimes occur in trees due to wind, etc. In such cases, intervention is carried out without delay. The broken branch is cut off at the appropriate location. 12- We can also prune fast-growing, gluttonous branches before winter. 13-Apply grafting paste or a water-repellent solution to the cuts on pruned large branches to isolate the tree from germs and diseases. These precautions should be taken with all fruit trees we prune. I hope this video is helpful to my viewers.
