The Harrisburg State Hospital was created as the Pennsylvania State Lunatic Hospital and Union Asylum for the Insane in 1845. Between 1893 and 1912, the campus was rebuilt following the "Cottage Plan." The movie, Girl Interrupted was filmed here in 1999. Some signs were left after the filming and are still there today.
