Serious Sam travels to a place called Luxor in Thebes and discovers a retractable obelisk. A spaceship emerges from the depths of space and flies to Egypt. Serious Sam then travels to the secret level Sacred Grounds (Sacred Yards), after which the Great Pyramid, the final destination of his journey, awaits our hero. First, Serious Sam endures an onslaught of enemies in a large arena, and then is pursued by the powerful monster Ugh-Zan III, who must be lured into the Great Pyramid. Serious Sam: The First Encounter is the first game in the Serious Sam series, released in 2001 by Croteam. This is a beautiful, meaty shooter in which the protagonist, Serious Sam, is teleported to Ancient Egypt to stop the evil of a mysterious being named Mental. He first travels through temples and deserts in search of the four sacred elements. When Serious Sam finds them, he travels to Memphis, where the sacred relic is located in the Temple of Ptah. Having obtained it, our hero reaches the city of Thebes, where he is interested in the Great Pyramid. Serious Sam clears a path to this place, where he is attacked by a huge monster named Ugh-Zan III. Having cunningly defeated the evil sorcerer, Serious Sam boards a spaceship and departs to visit Mental. This concludes the story of Serious Sam: The First Encounter.
